GAB owes its origins to Dr James Birren, a psychologist and gerontologist, who developed this system of life story work over 40 years ago. GAB is a powerful process where life stories are written and shared in a small respectful group setting. This is writing from the heart and doesn't require any literary skill. Everyone is equal in these groups. Each week participants write, (or verbally record), two pages on specific themes, using a prepared list of questions to evoke memory and inspire the act of writing. Supporting material is also provided to further enhance this process.
“Your life story is a gift, and it should be treated as such.”
Emily V. Gordon
The benefits to writing and sharing our life stories are immense. Through this process we connect more deeply to our authentic self and importantly form strong and lasting bonds with others.
